My boyfriend purchased a USB OTG cable so he can play Android games with an Xbox 360 wired controller. When he plugs the Xbox controller into his LG G2 nothing happens, I plugged it into my Samsung Galaxy S4 and it worked immediately. His LG G2 recognizes a flash drive, keyboard and mouse right away so we know the cable is working just fine. What could be causing the Xbox controller to not work?
The AT&T LG G2 is rooted running 4.2.2 with stock ROM. The Keylayout file vendor_045e_product.028e.kl
used for the Xbox 360 wired controller was already on the phone. Running the app titled 'USB Device Info' with the Xbox 360 wired controller plugged in shows the controllers info in both the Android and Linux tabs. The device seems to recognize everything it's supposed to but won't work with any games or emulators. It wont even allow the controller to navigate the home screen.
The Xbox One S controller is not designed nor supported to run on smartphones. Microsoft did not issue any bluetooth controller drivers outside of Windows 10. While I do not have the final solution - I was able to make some progress in figuring out why the G2 fails to work with the 360 controller.
I've been doing diagnostics and noticed that the LG G2 USB connection manager is emulating a USB2.0 and USB3.0 device hub - which shows up when an OTG cable is connected to the phone - and while it identifies the 360 controller, its non-standard integration is likely causing the device to not be recognized by applications.
Using USB/BT Joystick Center from the play store, I was able to refuse permission to access the USB Hub devices, but permit the app to talk to the Xbox controller. (When it scans for devices, it will display 'FOUND: Device Name' then prompt for permission. When it displays 'FOUND: Xbox 360 Controller' approve access. Deny all other prompts, or else the software cannot communicate with the controller).
Immediately after doing the above, the controller's LEDs stopped flashing - and locked into 'Player 1' configuration. Then the software loaded a default 360 profile, and clicking on driver let me see the raw inputs from the controller. It works!
It seems to me that the device is perfectly compatible, but the LG OTG input manager is doing something funky with the input - and needs another piece of software to channel the inputs from the USB device to the system. If there were a way to get the LG software to identify it as a keyboard or gamepad, that would be ideal.
I'll keep working at it for now.

Troubleshooting questions related to the Xbox One controller
Troubleshooting questions related to the Xbox One console
This list is especially for gamers who can't afford the expensive Elite controller/SCUF controllers and just want to add some customization to their current gamepad and need some suggestions.
Troubleshooting questions related to the Xbox One controller
1. My Xbox One Controller can't sync!
- Remove the battery from your controller.
- Power off your console
- While the console is turned off, connect your Micro-USB cable to your controller and attach it to the console.
- Power on the console and check if the controller turns on
- Follow the steps belowhere to update the controller.
2. How do I update my Xbox One controller (you may read a more detailed troubleshooting guide from Microsoft)
- If the controller does not update automatically, you have to connect the controller via a micro-USB cable to your console.
- Sign into Xbox Live on your Xbox One console
- The instructions to update should appear on your screen. Follow the instructions and ensure the controller remains connected throughout the whole process.
If the instructions do not appear, press the menu button, and go to your settings. Select 'Devices and accessories' and choose the controller that you will be updating.
Unplug it when complete.
*Note: Stereo Headset adapters should be plugged in during the updating process
P.S: If you have more than one controller, update them one by one. Disconnect if not updating yet.
3. Why are my controller buttons so hard to press?
It could be that there is sticky residue from the factory that is causing the buttons to be harder to press.
If you are not familiar with cleaning your controller, either follow a guide online or send it back to the manufacturer (better be safe than void your warranty!).
But if you're familiar with breaking down stuff carefully, you can look at this guide for reference (this is similar to giving your controller a full clean-up)
4. My analog sticks are drifting
There can be a few solutions and reasons to drifting analog sticks. It is quite common in Xbox One controllers so you can either send it back to the manufacturer for your warranty.
The configuration on your PC or Xbox One will only solve the software problem but will not solve the hardware issues.
What you can test first is:

- Ensure that you have full batteries
- Hard reset your console by holding the power button for 10 seconds and then removing the power cable once it powers off.
- Wait for 5 minutes before reconnecting and resync your controller (follow the steps here).
If it still drifts, you can either send it back if it is still under warranty for a fix. However, if you have to fix it yourself, you can try cleaning your controller.
*NOTE: This is not a definite sure fix. It may work for some and other it might not. If you controller is still under warranty, I highly suggest sending it back to the manufacturer.
- You'll need some q-tips and rubbing alcohol
- Power off the controller and remove the battery.
- Place some rubbing alcohol on the q-tips and clean the gap near your analog sticks (make sure to move them around to ensure it cleans thoroughly).
- Let it sit for 20 seconds to evaporate and repeat the cleaning process 3-4 times.
- You can power on your controller after it dries to see if it still drifts.
If you have a controller from us (TekBotic), and it is still under warranty, you can contact us to have your controller fixed by us completely free of charge! :)
5. Why is the controller not vibrating while I play?
- Ensure that your vibrations settings in the game are enabled
- The controller will most likely not vibrate if the battery is too low
- The vibration motor could be defective, and you will need to return the controller. If it is not under warranty, you can follow this guide by ifixit here.
P.S.: If you require following the ifixit guide, you'll have to have a T6 & T8 (security) Torx screwdriver.
6. The controller is not able to turn on at all! :(
- Try connecting to the console via a micro-USB cable. If it powers on, it is most likely a low batteries issue or a faulty battery connection
- Try testing with different AA batteries or a different play and charge battery.
If it doesn't power on at all, it'll need to be returned.
Also, here is a quick battery fix if the connection feels iffy:
7. The controller connects to the console but doesn't stay connected or disconnects frequently
- It could be other wireless interference.
- It could also be the controller is out of range.
- Try a hard reboot and resync the controller.
8. My controller can't detect my headset
Other than cleaning your connections ports, there are many troubleshooting solutions for this, but we shall only touch on a few of them:
If you can't hear others,
- First, make sure that the headset (or stereo adapter) is working by testing it on another source (PC, handphone, etc.)
- Increase the audio of the device (if connected to the 3.5mm port) by going to your settings and selecting the 'devices & accessories' option. Set the audio to be higher
- For stereo headset adapters, ensure that the adapter has been updated together with the controller. (view the 'how to update my controller section')
*Note: You will hear an echo if your wireless controller battery is low.
If others can't hear you,
- Ensure your mic is enabled
- Go to your settings and click restart console (if the console hangs, hold the Xbox home button till it reboots
- Ensure that you are not muted in party chat or other settings in your console.
*Note that your headset is working if your gamer pic lights up.
Please note that the stereo headset adapter is non-compatible with:
- Mad Catz Tritton Warhead headset
- Mad Catz Tritton Primer headset
- The Xbox 360 Wireless Headset & Bluetooth Headset
- Any headphones with the 2.5-mm connector
9. How do I use my Xbox One controller for the PC?
You can follow the steps here provided by Microsoft

Xbox One Controller Driver Download
1. Xbox won't connect to Xbox Live even though the internet works with other devices.
- First, check and make sure the problem only affects your console. It could be a server error.
- Do a hard reset. To do this, hold down the power button for 10 seconds (console is on)
- If you are unable to do a reset, try turning off the Xbox One, unplug it and wait for 10 seconds before turning it back on. These steps will hard reset the Xbox. No data lost in the process.
2. How do I do an Xbox One license transfer (game share feature)?
To briefly explain, a license transfer allows you to access downloadable content (DLC) games from your friends Xbox or your Xbox. There's a catch:
This method requires you to set your home Xbox on the console you wish to download the content on (more explanation below). HOWEVER, please note that you are limited to only changing your home Xbox a maximum of 3 times per year.
You can read more about game licensing from Xbox One here. So if you're interested, read onwards!:
- Sign into any Xbox One console that you would like to play the game on
- Open the sign in tab on the left side and click the 'add & manage tab' at the bottom
- Click 'Add new.'
- Register your Xbox Live account and sign in once added
- Go to your settings and click 'All settings.'
- Go to the personalization tab and click 'My home Xbox' and make the Xbox console the Home Xbox.
- Download and play! :)
3. How do I take a screenshot?
- Make sure your console has been updated
- While in game, double tap the Xbox home button on your controller and press 'Y'
- For Kinect users, you can just say 'Xbox, take a screenshot.'
*Note: You have to be in-game for this feature to work. The screenshots will be at your Upload Studio app>>Manage captures
4. How do I allow the Xbox One to download while it's turned off?
Technically, you can place the Xbox One in a power saving mode to download games. Follow the steps below to use this feature:
- Go to your home screen by clicking your home button on the controller
- Click on the menu button on your controller (the button with three horizontal lines)
- Go to your settings and select 'Power & Startup.'
- Choose the 'instant-on power mode.'
And ta-dahhh! Your games will download in standby mode while it's 'turned off'
5. Any tips on installing games faster?
This problem is apparently quite a common and known by Microsoft. I'm unsure if it has been fixed in the Xbox One S (you can let me know in the comments).
Here is one suggestion on how to make the installation process faster:
- Go to your settings and select 'Network.'
- Go offline or disconnect your internet from your console
- Continue installing the game
What this does is it bypasses the process where you need to wait for the game to download all the updates and patches.
If your download stops, restart the console and retry the download
6. My disc is stuck. How do I manually open my disc drive on the Xbox One?
- Try restarting the console and eject the disc again
- If that does not work, power off the console and remove the power supply cable
- Using a LARGE paperclip, uncoil it a little
- Locate a small orange circle at the back of the console on the left side
- Push the long end of the paper clip in and the disc should pop out.
Note that this is the same for the Xbox One S
7. How do I change my Xbox One Gamertag?
You can change your Gamertag once for free. (after that Microsoft charges an extra cost to change it. Not too sure if this has changed (about $10?):
- Go to your settings
- Select the 'Personalization' section
- Click my profile and select 'Customize Profile.'
- You can edit your name, location, color, etc.

So without further ado, let's get to other customization parts! :)
1. Analog stick replacements/ D-pad replacement
E-mods gamingprovides an excellent selection of analog stick replacements. One of them that I particularly liked came as a set:
It's somewhat similar to the parts provided with the elite controller (but cheaper in quality).
2. Analog stick grip covers
The popular replacements on Amazon by Foamy Lizard are large but gives superb grip. So if your fingers sweat a lot and need some added grip, these covers might be useful for you.I have to point out thought that most reviewers say that sometimes the cover doesn't sit well on the analog sticks and slips off easily.
However, if a rechargeable pack is too expensive, you can get the micro-USB cable that still allows charging while playing. You can check out ours below:
4. Side handle grips
I'm usually a protective hoarder and dislike getting my gaming apparels scratched or damaged. If you need a Xbox One controller case, this might be useful in protecting those pristine controllers (by MS4R):
But I do have a couple of friends that sometimes bring their console along with them. So this might be a better case from CTA Digital:
